What is COVID-19 testing?

What is the process for COVID-19 testing?

COVID-19 testing happens in the office. In most cases, the test involves a nasal swab. Your provider simply twirls a cotton swab-tipped stick in both sides of your nose and secures the sample in a sterile container for testing. The sample then goes to the lab for analysis.

When should I schedule COVID-19 testing?

You can schedule COVID-19 testing anytime you have symptoms of the disease or if you’ve been around someone with the disease. Your employer may require you to show a negative test at some point. 

If you’re planning air travel or a cruise, you’ll typically have to provide a negative test before boarding the aircraft or ship. Generally, you need to schedule this test in a set period before you travel, such as 24-48 hours.
